Posted by admin on February 15th, 2009 filed in GeneralTeen parenting could definitely be challenging and frightening because success or failure in doing so could greatly affect how the child comes out as an adult. No one said parenting teenagers could be easy, but experts always remind parents that there are practical ways to get though this period. Here are some practical advices for parents of teenagers, especially those with defiant and troubled behavior.
Relax. This could be the simplest parent advice for any parent. If you have successfully passed the adolescent stage during your teenage years, trust that your child will also be able to do so. Give him space and respect.
Establish communication. Listen to what your teenage child says using not just your ears but also your heart before giving out parent advice. This way, you could set an emotional connection and help discover sources of unlikely behavior.
Refrain from giving unsolicited and negative comments about teenager’s drastic physical changes or even fashion sense. Give him the freedom to explore and experiment, which could be a good way to learn and cope.
Compliment good deeds, achievements and impressive behavior. Make the teenager feel good.
Respect privacy and treat him like an adult. This way, he could be more at ease to seek advice from you.
