Sign Language for Babies: Your Baby Can Talk!

Posted by admin on January 27th, 2009 filed in General

Primarily used by the hearing impaired, sign language is a form of communication, which is done by using hand gestures instead of words. Recently, sign language for babies is becoming popular as a way of communicating with a child before it is old enough to speak.

Teaching sign language for babies is going to greatly decrease frustration for you and your baby. Parents do not want their children to be upset or cry, so by teaching the skill of sign language their babies will be able to tell them exactly what they need, or want. This decreases the time it would normally take to guess what is wrong with the baby.

This wonderful skill may be easier to teach than you think. At a young age, babies can quickly associate gestures with things they can hear, see, or feel. If these gestures begin at a few months of age, the baby will be able to communicate with you using signs before you know it. Never try to rush a child into learning this skill because every child learns at a different rate. Stay patient and consistent and the learning experience will be rewarding for both you and your baby.
